Interior designers are qualified by education,
experience and examination. In 23 states, the
District of Columbia and Puerto Rico,
practitioners must meet certain requirements
to be registered or licensed as interior
designers.
All ASID members agree to abide by the
Society's Code of Ethics and Professional
Conduct. ASID Professional members have
passed a national qualifying examination
administered by the National Council for
Interior Design Qualification.
Completion of the NCIDQ Examination
recognizes that an individual has met minimum
competency standards for the practice of interior
design. Passage of the exam is a requirement for
licensure in all NCIDQ member jurisdictions. The
exam also serves as a qualifier for professional
membership within interior design organizations
and, for non-affiliates, represents a voluntary
individual accomplishment.
Based on the Interior Designer's Body of
Knowledge, qualified Interior Designers will
display appropriate understanding in the
following areas:
- Human Environment Needs
- Interior Construction, Codes, and Regulations
- Design Products and Materials
- Professional Practice
- Communication
"Interior Designers are licensed in many states. Passage of the NCIDQ exam is a requirement for licensure on all NCIDQ member jurisdictions."
